Reminder
Regarding Student Medication at School
Fort Bend
ISD also reminds families that students who require medication while at school
must have their parents (not students) deliver the medication to the school
clinic. Students may not carry medication, including non-prescription
medication, with them or administer medicine to themselves. All medications
delivered by parents to the clinic must be accompanied by a written request and
instructions signed by the parent.
There are
rare instances in which life-threatening conditions exist and a student may need
to carry his own medication. In the event that a student needs a medication for
an emergency situation, please discuss that with your school nurse. If
medication is provided for any acute reaction, such as given for asthma, acute
allergic reactions, insect bites or stings, hemophilia, etc., it must be
accompanied by a physician's written authorization, as well as the parent's
written request. In these rare instances, the physician's authorization must
state that: the condition is life threatening, self-administration of the
medication is necessary, and the student is knowledgeable in self-administration
of the medication. Duplicate medication should be kept in the school clinic for
possible emergency situations. Parents are also reminded to update their child's
school nurse about any new medical condition their child may have.
