HAVE A
QUESTION?
Have
A Question?
ASK A
Fort Bend County Librarian, ONLINE!
The
Fort Bend community now has three ways to ask questions of a reference librarian
at Fort Bend County Libraries: at one of the library locations or by phone
during library hours, or by using the Internet at any time.
The
new Ask-A-Librarian reference service is very easy to use. Go to the library’s
website at
http://www.fortbend.lib.tx.us/ . Click on “research,” find the “Ask A
Librarian” link on that page, and click on the link. Follow the instructions to
ask the question(s), and an email confirming receipt of the question(s) will be
sent back immediately. A reply to the question(s) will be sent within two
library working days.
For
more information, call the Public Information Office at 281-341-2611.

Wi-Fi
Now Available At Third Fort Bend County Library Location
Thanks to funds raised by the Friends of the
First Colony Branch Library through its ongoing monthly book sales at the
branch, the First Colony Branch Library at 2121 Austin Parkway in Sugar Land has
become the third Fort Bend County library to offer Wi-Fi access to its patrons.
The First Colony Branch joins George Memorial Library and Cinco Ranch Branch
Library in providing this new technology to access the Internet.
“Wi-Fi” is short for wireless fidelity -- a local area network that uses
high-frequency radio signals to transmit and receive data, eliminating the need
for dial-up connections to the Internet. Patrons can now access the wireless
service at these library locations by using a personal laptop or notebook
computer that has an Internet browser with a Wi-Fi-compliant, wireless Ethernet
card or built-in Wi-Fi capability. Each library location has a limited number of
licenses, so user access is limited and availability is strictly on a
first-come, first-served basis. The new service, which has an approximate range
of 50-feet, may be used during normal library hours. Library patrons should
address inquiries to the reference desk.
For more information about Wi-Fi at George Memorial Library, call 281- 344-3831;
for Cinco Ranch Branch, call 281-633-4640; for First Colony Branch, call
281-238-2800. Questions may also be directed to Fort Bend County Library’s
Public Information Office at 281-341-2611.
