A Question?
ASK A
Fort Bend County Librarian, ONLINE!
The
Fort Bend community now has three ways to ask questions of a reference librarian
at Fort Bend County Libraries: at one of the library locations or by phone
during library hours, or by using the Internet at any time.
The
new Ask-A-Librarian reference service is very easy to use. Go to the library’s
website at
http://www.fortbend.lib.tx.us/ . Click on “research,” find the “Ask A
Librarian” link on that page, and click on the link. Follow the instructions to
ask the question(s), and an email confirming receipt of the question(s) will be
sent back immediately. A reply to the question(s) will be sent within two
library working days.

Commissioner
Patterson Gives Thumbs-Up To Library’s Live Homework Help
A
Fort Bend County Libraries’ tutoring service that is available FREE through the
library’s website gets an enthusiastic “thumbs-up” from County Commissioner
James Patterson. “The County provides many services for our residents, but none
that are more exciting to me than free connection to Tutor.com,” Patterson
states. “As a former high school principal, I know the panic that sets in when a
child cannot solve a math problem that will be on tomorrow’s test. Now, they can
go through the county library’s website and have a live tutor. WOW!”
Tutor.com is an online tutoring service that connects people of all ages to
expert tutors in math, science, social studies and English. Services in English
are available from 3:00 – 10:00 pm, seven days a week. Spanish-speaking tutors
are also available Sunday through Thursday from 5:00 – 9:00 pm. The
participating tutors have undergone a seven-year criminal background check,
received references from Kroll Background America (students’ credentials are
confirmed by their university) and have been certified through the Tutor.com
Training Program.
Commissioner Patterson points out that using Tutor.com by
going directly to its website will cost you money; it is only free if you
access it through the library’s website. Just go to
www.fortbend.lib.tx.us, click on
the “Research” button on the second line near the top, then click on “Live
Homework from Tutor.com” (near the bottom of the screen) and follow onscreen
instructions.
Free
ONLY if you access the Tutor.com site via the library’s website.

The
commissioner’s grandsons, Justin and Brandon Bell, came over to Sugar Land
Branch Library recently to demonstrate -- with their grandfather -- just how
“cool” Tutor.com is. Thirteen-year-old Justin says, “I’m on the computer all the
time. Tutor.com will make my homework easier to get done.” Brandon, 16,
reported, “I was able to get online and get my questions answered before the
test the next day. The online notepad makes it easy to write out math problems
and work out the answers.”
