"RAINBOWS” AT AMERICAN LEGION PARK LAKE"

2000 Trout Can Be Caught by Anglers

American Legion Park in Missouri City will have its lake stocked with rainbow trout on Thursday, January 19th. Annually furnished by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department’s Division of Inland Fisheries, the catchable-sized fish numbering about 2,000 need to be harvested before the warm weather arrives for a lengthy period.

“We jointly purchase the trout together with the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department from commercial hatcheries,” advises Randy Troxell, Acting Director of the Missouri City Parks and Recreation Department. “Catching them can take something as simple as a baited cane pole to a fly rod or for the more sophisticated angler, really light spinning tackle, 4 to 6 pound test line and 1/32 to 1/8 once spinners will do the trick,” he adds.

The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department suggests that bait such as whole kernel corn, cheese and even salmon eggs on a hook are quite effective.

The trout stocked in ponds and lakes throughout the State from the Texas Parks and Wildlife are intended to be caught and kept by anglers. “In order to fish and keep them, you must have a valid Texas fishing license and, for trout fishing purposes, a $5 freshwater stamp,” reminds Troxell. Anglers under 17 years of age are not required to have a license and do not need to purchase a stamp, he clarifies. Troxell also indicates that there is no length limit on trout and the daily bag limit is five per angler.

The purpose of the rainbow trout stocking program allows the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department to introduce its residents to a different species since trout is not native to this area. An estimated 250,000 “rainbows” are expected to be stocked in rivers, streams, lakes, and municipal ponds across the state.

Once the fish have been caught, there are plenty of mouth watery recipes that will please many pallets. Below is one provided by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department. “Good luck with the fishing and bon appetit,” says Troxell. The American Legion Park in Missouri City is located on Lexington Drive, off FM 1092/Murphy Road. For more information about this program, interested persons are asked to call 281/261-4290.

The Missouri City Council meetings are now available on the City website.

“There are areas in the city that are not currently served by Warner Cable,” noted Mayor Allen Owen, “and to date they have not been able to watch the meetings on MCTV and will now have access through video streaming.” “Those living in Missouri City’s ETJ (extra territorial jurisdiction), for example, have also not been able to access the meetings on TV,” advised Mayor Owen.

This additional access of the regular meetings represents another alternative for residents to be informed about the deliberations by their elected officials on matters affecting them as well as other interested persons.  In addition to the City Council meetings, the recently held State of the City Town Hall Meeting can be accessed from the w ebsite as it too, has undergone video streaming as well as other television programs that have been aired.

MCTV-16, Missouri City’s municipal channel established in 1996, continues to broadcast these meetings and other public forums, including Planning and Zoning Commission, Greater Fort Bend Economic Development meetings and others as well as pertinent information for community bulletin board use twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week.

In an effort to make the City Council meetings available to non Warner Cable subscribers, including residents in Missouri City’s ETJ, the City Council authorized the video streaming availability which is internally coordinated by Media Relations/MCTV and the IT Department.

The Missouri City Council meets twice a month every other Monday.  Those meetings, aired on MCTV, will be placed on the City’s website for viewing within two days after they are held.

To access the City Council meetings over the internet, interested parties are advised to log on to Missouri City’s website, www.ci.mocity.tx.us, and click on the streaming video message on the home page.  There are three video formats and sizes from which to select.

For technical assistance, interested persons are asked to contact the Webmaster at 281-261-4386. http://www.ci.mocity.tx.us/
